EMIL will devote a significant part of its activities to advance imaging-based drug development. This new avenue has considerable potential impacts in pharmaceutical development and is expected to grow accordingly during the five years of the programme and beyond. Applications will be the subject of particular attention in the Exploitation plan.

Two activities related to drug discovery will be implemented from the beginning of the project:

• Technology for in vivo drug screening: development of specific methods for drug evaluation from molecular libraries.
  • Antisense strategies based on Peptide Nucleic Acid (PNA)
  • Improving antisense for in vivo applications
• Pre-clinical to clinical transfer: use of imaging data as surrogate markers of drug activity.
