Bioluminescent Imaging
Objectives

Establish a European platform for training scientists and students in Bioluminiscence Imaging.

Equipment available

LUMC has two bioluminiscent imaging systems available that use different principals and is one few places in Europe who have a high field magnetic resonance microscope (MRM). The magnification is given by ultra-field magnets that are available, the largest reaching 17.6 Tesla(Bruker). This specific machine results from an earlier European-funded project (Prof. Dr. H. de Groot, Leiden).

SMEs integration

Over the first 18 months period, the Leiden Technological Platform will act as a test and demonstrations centre and will validate the following equipements:

  • Cell-viZio prototype, which will be marketed in the next couple of months by Mauna Kea technology ( partner 38, MKT, France), to test its use in tracking GFP-expressing tumor cells.
  • PhotoImaging system from BIOSPACE (Partner 6, BIOSP, France), to test the new luciferase expressing tumor cell clones and to make a comparison with other BLI systems already available in Leiden.

Training

The training will be given to groups of max 5 trainees. The entire training activities might take from 2 full man.months and 1 month of laboratory time for the first year, involving both postdoc and engineer staff time, to 4 full man.months and 2 months of laboratory time for the following years as trainings sessions will be progressively added over the duration of the project.
